Target audience: Who wants to work in Hong Kong

There are three types of recruiters in HK

TL;DR

If you want to deal with the agency from the outsourcing solution company — Prepare your resume in long sentences with formal style and hit the needed that they wanted in the opening.

If you want to deal with the headhunts from the tech recruiting company — Prepare your resume in a clean point form and shortlist the items that you want to share in the first call.

If you want to deal with the internal recruiter from the tech company — Prepare your resume in a clean point form and try to link your Github inside. As you need to understand the one who is reviewing your CV is an engineer.

The agency from the outsourcing solution company / internal recruiter from the non-tech company

Aims to feed the candidates to an outsourced position in a huge company ( e.g Government Organisation, Government Department, Local Bank, Local public organization).

In this case, the agency knows zero from your domain, and only care your profile will be matched their customer job description. I mean the keyword.

You should put a long description of your skills and knowledge that you think will fit their opening in a formal tone.

In fact, those agencies will directly forward your CV to their customer. So a long description without any amendment is what they want.

The headhunts from the tech recruiting company

They help the tech companies without an internal recruiter to find a stable candidate to fill the opening.

They most likely have a basic understanding of what you are using and the programming language.

You should put a clear point form about the tools or skills in your resume and wait for their first call. As they will assign a headhunt working in your domain to ping you in the call.

A clear point form will enrich the first call and none wants to read a long sentence during the call. Also, it can lead to the direction of the call.

For instance, if you would like to share Android related projects in the call that you should put Android this keyword in your resume and I believe they will ask about it.

Unlike the first type of agency, they need to enrich your background by your story and your working experience. As the main goal for them is that they would like to present the candidate to the customer, a good and interesting background always get the attention.

The internal recruiter from the tech company

They are working closely with the Engineering team. And they will always ask Engineer to have involvement in the application.

Normally, you will have their call only when you apply directly to the tech company.

Just like to headhunt, they have an understanding of the tools and skills that they are needed in the opening.

As they will work closely with the Engineer. You should put a clear form of your skills and the things related.

Do not try to put a very long sentence on your resume, as an engineer is reading a lot of documentation for difference API or many lines of code. A clear form definitely helps them to pick up your profile.

Be humble

You should not try to tell them that you understand all the things and are perfect in your resume. As you need to know only God is perfect. But it does not mean you should not show their strong understanding of something as I just want you to care about the tone.

Plus, it will be nice to link the Github profile in your resume. As an engineer will like to know your contribution and style in Github.

A Github profile enables them to know your coding style, and how to resolve an issue or mistake in the code review. As none want to have an easily angry person in their working environment.
